The Department of Laboratory Medicine at CHEO invites applications for the position of Chief, Division of Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine.
CHEO is a tertiary care pediatric teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa. It is the acute care pediatric center for the Eastern Ontario Region where hospital-based laboratory medicine services are provided under the auspices of the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA). CHEO has a very active Hematology/Oncology service with approximately 90 new oncologic diagnoses per year, as well as the second largest haemoglobinopathy program in Ontario. The division also supports PICU, NICU, Cardiac Surgery (including ECMO) and the regional pediatric trauma program.

The Division provides pediatric haematopathology and transfusion support and services for CHEO patients as well as consultative services for surrounding areas. Working collaboratively with Medical/Scientific, Administration, Management, and Technical Staff within CHEO and across EORLA, the successful candidate will provide medical leadership for the Division of Hematopathology at CHEO.

CHEO invites applications from candidates who have strong operational and academic leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven record of achievement in medical laboratory development, education, research, and/or quality assurance.

Eligibility for a license to practice medicine with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is mandatory. Candidates must be eligible for a full time academic appointment in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. While English is the language of the health record, functionality in French is an asset. Candidates must have FRCPC or equivalent certification in Hematological Pathology. Additional experience or training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology or Pediatric Hematopathology is preferred.
