Applications are invited for a full time academic surgical pathologist position.

The successful candidate will participate in the surgical pathology diagnostic service
(primarily in the haematopathology/lymph node pathology and secondarily in the
gynecologic pathology subspecialty services), related translational research, and will be
expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. The successful candidate
must be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Compensation will be according to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s Uniform
Minimum Level of Compensation and Laboratory Medicine Funding Framework
Agreement.

Minimum requirements include an M.D. degree, a license to practice in Ontario, Royal
College of Physicians (Canada) certification in Anatomical Pathology, and a fellowship in
haematopathology/lymph node pathology, with related flow cytometry and molecular
diagnostics training, and experience in gynecologic pathology at a recognised academic
centre. The competition will remain open until the position is filled.

About EORLA:
EORLA operates 18 acute-care, hospital-based clinical laboratories across the Champlain
Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) of Eastern Ontario.

EORLA’s Division of Anatomical Pathology operates out of 4 regional adult hospitals and
1 pediatric hospital, annually processing and reporting over 93,000 surgical pathology
cases (over 139,000 specimens), 19,365 cytology cases, 289 non-forensic autopsies, and
over 700 forensic autopsies per annum. A new molecular oncology diagnostics
laboratory has been established, supporting personalised therapy for cancer patients in
the region.

Histology and cytology technical preparations are centrally processed at the Regional
Reference Laboratory situated at the Ottawa Hospital and slides are distributed to all 4
regional adult hospitals for interpretation and reporting.

A total of 50.4 FTE pathologists provide interpretive and consulting services. Over 30
pathologists provide undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Ottawa. A regional quality management program is in place, based on the Standards2Quality guidelines. A single regional anatomical pathology information system (PowerPath) has been extended to all 4 adult hospitals.

Practice Location:
The practice location for this position will be at the Ottawa Hospital (TOH), General
Campus, in Ottawa.
