Academic Cardiovascular Surgical Pathologist

Applications are invited for a full-time Anatomical Pathologist position in the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP), with an academic appointment at an appropriate rank in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University.
The position is for an experienced academically oriented surgical pathologist with training in cardiovascular pathology or 5 to 10 years practice experience at a centre with cardiac surgery. Recent graduates will also be considered if cardiac training is in progress. The successful candidate will provide regional diagnostic cardiovascular services and participate in the regular surgical and autopsy pathology and cytology service as needed. As an academic physician, the successful candidate will provide undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and participate in collaborative research as appropriate and in continuing medical education activities.
This position offers an extensive range of adult cardiac practice, including consultations arising from the regional forensic unit. Hamilton is the main cardiac and vascular surgery center for the Region, serving approximately two million people in Central South Ontario, where strong basic and clinical research programs in cardiovascular disease have achieved international renown. The Heart Investigation Unit at Hamilton Health Sciences has grown to be the largest centre in Ontario with services in cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, valvuloplasties and percutaneous aortic valve implantations. The Hamilton-based Population Health Research Institute is Canada’s premier global health research centre and a world leader in large clinical trials and population studies, offering unique opportunities for collaborations.
Applicants must hold, or be eligible for, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Anatomical or General Pathology and be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario.
