General Pathologist / Anatomical Pathologist

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) has a full time position available for a General Pathologist / Anatomical Pathologist at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, starting immediately. The successful candidate will join a team of 3 laboratory physicians working mostly at an acute care institution. The duties include anatomic pathology, general pathology including consultation in blood bank, hematology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, accession and/or point of care services and the provision of 1:4 on call coverage; cytopathology, intradepartmental and interdepartmental consultations, frozen section, supervision of one of the rural lab areas and proficiency test assessments. Approximately 11,450 surgical specimens, 2073 non-gynecologic cytology specimens and 40 bone marrow biopsy specimens are processed annually.

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS), province-wide laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services.

The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) is an acute care facility, which also includes sub-acute/restorative care beds serving South East Alberta with a catchment population of ~110,000. MHRH has 246 acute care beds, 30 geriatric beds, 10 ICU beds and 7 NICU bassinets. MHRH is an accredited Level 3 Trauma Centre providing coverage in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and Cancer services.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in General Pathology or Anatomical Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomical Pathology or Anatomical Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Compensation
An excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance is provided. Options to function as either a contractor or an employee exist.  Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of training and experience. Remuneration range for a Laboratory Physician / Pathologist in Alberta is $353,874.00 to $411,650.00.
