Together, we aim to lead a new era of cancer prevention, care and discovery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities at our new home within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Your role in our future.
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant or a well versed Cut Up Scientist to join our surgical grossing program. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced person with excellent written and verbal communication skills to join the existing team of PAs and Scientists to pioneer an innovative career pathway in an expanding, cancer orientated pathology laboratory.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to specimen receipt, accessioning, and triaging; simple, non complex and complex surgical dissection; macroscopic photography; assisting with frozen sections; specimen storage, tracking and disposal; and sampling of tissue for ancillary studies, tissue bank and research. Assist with the training of scientists and registrars; perform administrative functions including preparation and administrative maintenance of protocols, quality requirements and other activities to support the anatomical pathology department. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as close collaboration with the Head of Anatomical Pathology, Consultant Pathologists, Registrars (equivalent to Residents) and the various surgical teams. This is an important aspect to the role in order to apply a series of consensus standards to a wide range of complex tissue specimens.

The laboratory operates between 5:00am and 8:00pm Monday to Friday with the possibility of flexible hours and some overtime. The role would predominantly be in the later part of the day. Remuneration is commensurate with experience and salary packaging is available.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in science, with experience in complex surgical cut up. Pathologists’ Assistant. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.

Assistance with visa sponsorship, relocation and medical insurances are available.
