Lakeridge Health is seeking a Chief of Laboratory Medicine and Medical Director, Laboratory Medicine Program to lead the collegial Department and comprehensive Program with a focus on clinical, operational, academic, and strategic leadership. Lakeridge Health is home to four core labs, with an annual test volume of 3.2 million tests, and two pathology labs which process approximately 39,000 anatomic pathology cases annually. With approximately 240 staff members and 17 physicians, the lab operates on a hybrid subspecialty pathology model with a focus on Whole System Quality. Cases are a mixture of small biopsies, large benign and complex malignant tumors.
The Chief role, reporting to the Chief of Staff, is responsible for the professional practice and quality of care provided by the physicians within the Department of Laboratory Medicine in a manner that is consistent with the Strategic Vision. The Medical Director role, accountable to the Health System Executive, is responsible for the co-management of the Laboratory Medicine Program with the Clinical Director in a dyad model. The Medical Director role will be partnering and leveraging the Quadruple Aim framework for health system redesign to lead and further develop this expansive Program and will be engaging and leading the privileged staff in the Department in the development and implementation of the goals, strategic directions, and academic advancement of the Program.

The successful candidate will be supported and expected to pursue faculty appointments with our academic partners and will facilitate the academic advancement of the Department members, including the support of research and education initiatives. Prior success in leading the development of Laboratory Medicine education and research programs is highly desirable.
Experience in leadership roles in complex health care organizations is an important prerequisite for this position. The successful applicant must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and will be an experienced Pathologist who holds Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) certification in General Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, or Hematopathology. This position is a 0.4 FTE (2 days/week). The anticipated start date is September 2023.
