Health Sciences North (HSN) is recruiting a full-time general (AP/CP) or AP Pathologist. As the tertiary referral centre for Northeastern Ontario, HSN serves >600,000 residents, has 500 beds and hosts the North Eastern Ontario Cancer Centre.
Our department currently includes 10 pathologists providing comprehensive pathology services to HSN and other hospitals in the region. Services include surgical pathology, cytology, neuropathology, hematopathology, flow cytometry, transfusion medicine, forensics, genomics, microbiology and chemistry. Our team also includes a Biochemist and Microbiologist.
In addition to service work, pathologists at HSN are encouraged to participate in research at the HSN Research Institute and are expected to seek faculty appointments at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Most clinical and academic work is completed at the HSN main site, 41 Ramsey Lake Road. Compensation is fee-for-service originating from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and Ontario Health Insurance Plan.

Duties:

·   General surgical pathology (excluding Hematopathology, Soft tissue pathology and Medical Kidney)
·   Cytology
·   Frozen sections
·   Additional opportunities to contribute in other areas such as autopsy, genomics and laboratory management.

Qualifications:

·   AP or AP/CP board certification
·   Surgical Pathology Fellowship or equivalent experience preferred
·   Additional subspecialty fellowships considered an asset. Subspecialty training or an interest in Head & Neck and Gastrointestinal Pathology are particularly desirable but other subspecialty training, including Cytology, Pulmonary, GU, GYN, Genomics, Transfusion Medicine, and Forensic Pathology, will be considered.

Position highlights:

· Partnership track position with straightforward path to shareholder status within first two years of practice with no partner buy-in
· 8+ weeks of vacation/CME, with equal vacation priority, regardless of seniority
· Guaranteed minimum annual income according to the Ontario Uniform Minimum Level of Compensation (currently ~$383,000), plus additional income structure, including $100,000 guaranteed additional during first six months of practice
·  Most applicants will also be eligible for the Northern Recruitment and Retention initiative, administered through the Ministry of Health, currently $84,718 paid over four years, and additional recruitment incentives offered by Health Sciences North.
·  Flexible start date, from July 2024 to September, 2025.

Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and have obtained, or be eligible to obtain, specialty qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or the American Board of Pathology.
