Posting Date:Wed, 18 Sep 2024
Date to Apply By: Until Filled
Estimated Start Date: To be Determined
Address: 375 2nd Avenue
City: Campbell River, BC

The Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics is seeking applications for a full time Anatomical Pathologist.  General Pathologists may also be considered for this  opportunity; however, applicants should be aware all of the work will be in anatomical pathology.

While we are seeking anatomical pathologists who can provide broad coverage, extra training or interest in Dermatopathology or GI pathology is an asset. Based at the North Island Campbell River Hospital (CRG), you will work with a team in the hospital environment, sharing knowledge and collaborating to ensure seamless pathology services within the community and within the Department of Laboratory Medicine as a whole. You will be a member of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics. This position reports to the Department Head of Laboratory Medicine   and the Division Head Anatomical Pathology.

A typical week for a physician would include providing the following direct services:

• Surgical Pathology (including Frozen Sections/Intraoperative Consultations), Cytology, and hospital autopsy services.

• Grossing of all Level 3 surgical specimens and working with and providing oversight and guidance, within the terms of the contract, to operational staff grossing Levels 1 & 2.

The North Island Campbell River Hospital, a 95-bed facility which opened in October 2017, is a regional referral centre for a population of approximately 40,000.  In addition to Laboratory services, the hospital has a broad range of consultants including Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Otolaryngology, Radiology and Family Medicine.

All applicants must have a Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) and must obtain full licensure in the province of British Columbia, as well as CMPA coverage. The successful applicant will ideally be an excellent diagnostician with superb interpersonal and collaborative abilities. Subspecialty expertise and previous experience will be considered favourable assets.

The beautiful oceanfront city of Campbell River, population 40,000, is located at a mid-point on Vancouver Island’s east coast. The surrounding waters of Discovery Passage, and adjacent numerous lakes and rivers, offer an idyllic setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy year-round access to world-class golf courses or visit Mt. Washington Resort for spectacular winter skiing and summer mountain biking and hiking.
