Perinatal Pathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Level with diagnostic and academic interests in Perinatal Pathology. Interest in gynaecological pathology or informatics will be an asset. The anticipated start date is June 1, 2018 or a mutually agreed upon date.

Mount Sinai Hospital is a regional referral centre for placental and developmental pathology with 7,000 deliveries per year, 2,000 of which are high risk. The cases are comprised of placentas as well as more than 200 perinatal and forensic autopsies per year. The case tissue represents a wide spectrum of congenital abnormalities including genetic, dysmorphic and metabolic disease and maternal-fetal vascular insufficiency.

Perinatal pathology is fully integrated with the Department of Medical Genetics and the internationally renowned Maternal-Fetal Medicine unit. There are excellent opportunities for both basic science and clinical research. The candidate’s responsibilities will include full clinical practice in Perinatal Pathology, translational research, and education as well as administrative responsibilities as required by the Chief of the department. The successful candidate will join a large academic laboratory faculty with diverse diagnostic expertise, teaching responsibilities and clinical research activities. The department has a high volume of interesting and challenging cases and utilizes leading edge technologies, including molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics.

Minimum requirements include MD degree and certification of fellowship eligibility in anatomical pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or its equivalent, as well as eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate will have an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto, at a rank consistent with academic qualifications. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the uniform level of compensation in the Province of Ontario. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Service has implemented a program to ensure a total compensation package that will equalize your compensation with that of other Laboratory Physicians in the Province.
