The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Providence Health Care is seeking a full-time Hematopathologist. The candidate will join two other hematopathologists based at St. Paul’s Hospital, a 455-bed tertiary academic hospital located in downtown Vancouver, BC. It is the largest facility within Providence Health Care and one of the two major teaching hospitals in Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. The hospital has major programs in HIV/AIDS, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, endocrinology, and breast surgery. St. Paul’s Hospital is also home to the provincial programs for both adult hemoglobinopathies and adult bleeding disorders.
The laboratory provides an opportunity to work in multiple areas of hematopathology, including transfusion medicine, peripheral blood and bone marrow examination, flow cytometry and specialized coagulation testing. The hematopathologists work closely with both laboratory and clinical colleagues in a laboratory based on lean principles with state of the art equipment and a team of knowledgeable, dedicated technical staff.
Applicants must either hold or be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in either Hematopathology or General/Anatomic Pathology with fellowship training in Hematopathology. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia.
A strong record of experience and a research focus will be considered assets. Teaching of undergraduates and residents is an integral component of this position and preference will be given to applicants who can provide evidence of current involvement and commitment to education. The successful candidate will be a member of the University of British Columbia Clinical Faculty; academic rank will be determined in accordance with previous academic record.
