Pathologist Position

CRANBROOK, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA).  The East Kootenay Regional Hospital, located at the foot of the Rockies in beautiful Cranbrook, BC, is seeking a General Pathologist (AP/CP) or Anatomical Pathologist with additional training in Hematopathology to complete our 4.0 FTE pathology team.   Our group performs approximately 10,000 surgical cases and 10-15 hospital autopsies per year, as well as cytopathology, frozen sections, and bone marrow biopsies.  There is also opportunity to perform coroner’s autopsies if desired.  We have active transfusion medicine, hematology, and medical biochemistry services (with a lesser degree of involvement in microbiology), and provide medical leadership for all of the Interior Health laboratories in the East Kootenay region.  The vibrant, dedicated technical and support staff and engaging relationships shared with our clinical colleagues make for an exceptional work environment.  In conjunction with a well-rounded practice and location which engenders work-life balance, pathology in Cranbrook offers a highly fulfilling career.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in surgical pathology, hematopathology, and laboratory diagnostics, and will be comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships with the hospital and laboratory staff are also important.

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital serves a catchment area of approximately 80,000 people, and has a Level 4 oncology clinic, on-site MRI, and specialist services in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, and Radiology.  Cranbrook is the sunniest city in BC and is surrounded by limitless outdoor recreation, including two nearby ski hills, and boasts remarkable scenery and wildlife.  It is a thriving city with a modern theatre and lively arts community, a professional hockey team, and a remarkable railway museum  – something for everyone!  Cranbrook is also home to the main campus of the College of the Rockies and an international airport, and is located 4 hours from Calgary and 6.5 hours from Kelowna.

Hours:   Full-time
Compensation: $363,030* for 210 service days plus Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement incentives
   •  Recruitment incentive: $20,000
   •  Retention fee premium: 14% of service contract annually
   •  Retention flat fee: $12,240 annually
   •  Relocation assistance: $15,000 maximum
*Service Contract commensurate with provincially negotiated grid level

   •  Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) or eligible for Fellowship
   •  Eligible for full or provisional licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
   •  Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage
