Pathologist Position

CRANBROOK, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA).  The East Kootenay Regional Hospital, located at the foot of the Rockies in beautiful Cranbrook, BC, is seeking a General Pathologist (AP/CP) or Anatomical Pathologist with additional training in hematopathology to complete our 4.0 FTE pathology team.   Our group performs approximately 10,000 inpatient and outpatient surgical cases and 10-15 hospital autopsies per year, as well as non-gynecological cytopathology, frozen sections, and bone marrow biopsies.  There is also an opportunity to perform coroner’s autopsies if interested.  We have active hematology, transfusion medicine, and medical biochemistry services (with lesser involvement in microbiology), and provide medical leadership for all of the Interior Health laboratories in the East Kootenay region.  The vibrant, dedicated technical and support staff and engaging relationships shared with our clinical colleagues make for an exceptional work environment.  In conjunction with a diverse, well-rounded practice and location which engenders work-life balance, pathology in Cranbrook offers a highly fulfilling career.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in surgical pathology, laboratory diagnostics and be comfortable evaluating bone marrow biopsies and peripheral smears. Working well within an independent practice in a small group environment is also essential.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships with the hospital and laboratory staff are also imperative.

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital serves a catchment of approximately 80,000 people, and supports a Level 4 BCCA oncology clinic, on-site MRI, and specialist services in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, and Radiology.

Cranbrook is an outdoor paradise with breathtaking scenery and wildlife, within 2 hours drive of 5 ski hills, a 30 minute drive to your choice of 6 golf courses, and home to world-renowned rivers and lakes for fishing, boating, kayaking or rafting. There are also multiple sites for camping and hunting as well as a plethora of hiking, mountain biking, and road biking trails waiting to be explored. Cranbrook has a robust educational system with great public and private schools including French immersion, and a local community college with courses available to the public and access to the arts with a modern theater and local symphony. We are a thriving community – something for everyone!  Cranbrook is home to the College of the Rockies and an international airport, and is located 4 hours (392 km) from Calgary and 6 hours (529 km) from Kelowna.
