Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord (HSN) is recruiting a full time permanent Pathologist with a keen interest in affecting change within its dynamic health care system. As the tertiary care referral centre for the entire Northeastern Ontario region, HSN serves a catchment population of over 600,000 residents and hosts the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre. We are seeking a general (AP/CP) pathologist to join our well-established group, which provides pathology and laboratory support services to HSN and other hospitals throughout Northeastern Ontario. The HSN department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine currently includes 11 pathologists and provides a broad range of services for the following laboratory sections: surgical pathology and cytology, hematopathology including flow cytometry, transfusion medicine, forensics, genomics, histology and immunohistochemistry, microbiology, chemistry. The team also includes a Biochemist, Medical Microbiologist and Laboratory Cytogeneticist. Candidates should have solid training in anatomic and clinical pathology with both general and specialty skills that can complement those of the current group. Specialty training or a special interest in the areas of neuropathology or genomic pathology would be an asset. Experience or an interest in laboratory management is also desirable. In addition to routine service work, pathologists at HSN are also encouraged to participate in research at the affiliated HSN Research Institute (HSNRI) and are required to seek faculty appointments at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). Most clinical and academic work is completed at the HSN main site, 41 Ramsey Lake Road. Compensation is fee for service originating from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). The City is near Georgian Bay and Muskoka, and a 50 minute flight or 3-4 hour drive from the greater Toronto area.
