Banff Pathology Course - Soft Tissue, Bone, and Dermatopathology

The Banff Pathology Course is a collaborative effort of the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP-ACP), Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Calgary to provide a continuing medical education activity for practicing pathologists and residents in training.

The focus for 2017 is Soft Tissue, Bone, and Dermatopathology and will provide a forum for sharing information on current molecular diagnostics in the era of personalized medicine.


After attending this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the fundamental concepts and methods of molecular diagnostics
  2. Apply new molecular diagnostics in routine practice
  3. Describe the limitations and potential methodological pitfalls of various molecular diagnostic tests
  4. Discuss and appreciate emerging new molecular diagnostic tests, assays, and platforms

The course will be of interest to residents, fellows, and practicing general, anatomic and molecular pathologists.


This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), and approved by the Canadian Association of Pathologists - Association canadienne des pathologistes (CAP-ACP).  Participants may claim up to a maximum of 20.0 hours of study credits.

Through an agreement between the Royal College and Surgeons of Canada and the Amercican Medical Association (AMA), physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Information on this process can be found at
